This week was a prime example of get up do it and don’t think about doing it too much. I personally tend to think/dream about things rather than doing them, which I think has more to do with the fear of failure and less with the need for perfection and planning. The trigger for all this were two events that occurred this week, the submission deadline for the EBGE awards, the Greek graphic design, illustration and multimedia awards, and the third installment of the Design Walk, a 3 day event that design studios in the center of Athens open their spaces to the public, exhibiting work created for this event.
Both of this events started, I am sure, as an idea and not as a marketing/business plan based on market research. Someone thought this is a nice thing to have, let’s do it. And while design awards is neither an original idea nor too progressive, for Greece, the Design Walk is. Surely there were times when everyone involved thought they shouldn’t have even thought of it let alone done it (if they had given it time to mature they wouldn’t have done it).

Design Walk this year was curated by a specialized outlet in curating design events and the EBGE awards is becoming an institution. People outside the design community look to both for either good design or even design partners (not as much as abroad but a lot more than in the past never the less). Both teams responsible for those events seem to been learning from previous experience and mistakes and are building on that experience.

So to sum it up, although there is more to be said maybe in a non 15min restricted post, go do, think a little but get up and do, then do it again better and if you are in Greece be persistant and patient!

And the most anticipated thing is “the most important thing I ever done”, as quoted Steve Jobs to have said, to be revealed.Just a small reminder that this is the first product presentation Steve Jobs is going to have after his 6 months medical leave for leaver transplant.
Also Steve jobs has been trying to bring an iPad device to life for nearly 15 years now.

iPad is very thin and you can change the home screen. It provides the best browsing experience you’ve ever had.

It’s a slate that looks like a larger iPhone. There’s a home button, an aluminum bezel like a MacBook, a glass screen. Your able to personalize your home screen however you want. You can browse the Web with it — Steve says it’s the best browsing experience you’ve had
802.11n WI-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1. Accelerometer & compass, speaker microphone, 30-pin connector. Battery. What is the battery life of this device? 10 hours of battery life. Applause! Take a flight from SF to Tokyo and watch video the whole way on one charge. In addition, over a month of standby life. Set the iPad down, goes to sleep automatically, walk away and come back in a month and it still has a charge.

Gameloft is presenting games now, Nova in particular.
NY Times is up now.
The main target is supposed to reading on the iPad, NY Times is a big thing to come supporting it.
NY Times says: Been at this for three weeks, and excited to pioneer new journalism.
“new journalism” being the key phrase.
Now showing off Brushes for on-screen painting, with playback of the paint processes, cool but nothing mind-blowing yet.
It seems to be fast, both processing and display wise.

Steve is back on presenting iBooks, with EPUB format support.

It will have wi-fi, but 3g only to some models?
And he is shown some US specific data plans for the iPad

“We think it’s a phenomenal offering. So what about internationally? We hope to have our international deals in the June-July timeframe. We think we can do a lot in June, we’ll start on that tomorrow. However all models are unlocked and use GSM micro-SIMS.”
And he wraps it up with the price?
It starts at $499 (not $999) for the stripped one
the 3g, 64GB is $829
“Within about 90 days we’ll be shipping 3G models. Soon you’ll be able to get an iPad in your hands for just $499.”
Now accessories, keyboard dock, case…
It looks and it sounds great so far but I don’t think I am sold, maybe I am not in the exact target group
It looks like a big iPhone, in all aspects. I don’t see anything really new for me other than being bigger. Maybe more for students and executives, excel working people.
I mean don’t get me wrong I want one I am just not sure I need one, or at least what I need it for

January 27th is (once again) apple’s day

Apple has officially announced that on the 27th they will be announcing their latest creation, most likely a glorious iSlate/iTablet mini pc, large iPhone/iPod device, and i am left here wondering do we really need one. I mean what is the need that it is supposed to cover? What is the demographic? What worries me the most is that its going to be beautiful, very easy to use, fused with the golden touch of Steve Jobs comeback – which he is trying to bring to life for quite a while now – and with really intuitive and original interface, and by being all that will force my badly fire-walled brain to marketing and gadgets to decide to overcharge my credit card to buy it. So while i am really eager to see all the novelties the “new creation” is bound to bring i really hope that it has a really good practical use, a need to fulfill, even though i didn’t know i had that need
